Stunning views from Maungawhau

It is insane that things like this exist so close to the city centre!

Maungawhau (Mount Eden) is a dormant volcano approx. 6kms from Auckland city (if even!). Being the highest volcano in the region at 196 meters it’s offering stunning views over the city and surroundings. It last erupted some 15,000 years ago and is today safe to climb 😂!).

We had trouble finding parking so we didn’t park at the closest parking lot which meant that we had to walk a bit further, but as the walk isn’t very far that was ok. It’s uphill (obviously!) so some sort of fitness level can be required, although we saw people with prams and kids riding the bike up (with some help), so it’s definitely doable for most fitness levels.

There are also buses you can take up if you don’t want to/can’t walk. Definitely worth a visit!

Ps. The crater is 50m deep! 😮
